Who can businesses hire?
Applicants who are pre-qualified by our office and referred to you or applicants you send to us for eligibility screening.
How do people qualify?
Interested individuals must meet eligibility guidelines which are dependent on household income and work status, must complete the WorkKeys® assessments in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information and effective as of July 16, 2012, must pass a mandatory drug screen. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) eligibility must be determined and the contract must be written before the individual is hired.
Training hours are negotiable. The business is reimbursed up to 50% – 90% of their normal wages (based on size of business) on a monthly basis; must offer permanent full time (minimum of 35 hours a week) to the participant. Businesses will have the following options regarding starting minimum wage requirements:
- $8.50 per hour or above
- $8.00 per hour with 25-50 cent increase upon completion of all work activities and OJT hours; or
- $7.50 per hour with full benefits
The business may also apply for a Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).
